Herbie Nichols was one of the most original and under-recognized pianists and composers in jazz history—Blue Note founder Alfred Lion considered him every bit as singular as Thelonious Monk. In May 1955 Nichols recorded two sessions with Al McKibbon on bass and Art Blakey on drums, originally issued as two 10" LPs and combined here onto a single 12" LP in gatefold packaging featuring both original covers and the liner notes inside.
