Cecil "Home Boy" Lyde came up in the Chicago soul scene, working alongside Curtis Mayfield, The Chi-Lites, Major Lance and Gene Chandler before relocating to Los Angeles. There he put the city's finest session players to work on his magnum opus, Home Boy And The C.O.L. (the Cost of Living) — originally privately pressed on his own Alwest Records in 1982. A deep blend of funky boogie, solid grooves, crazy synth work and Cecil's soulful, doo-wop-influenced vocals.
