Originally released in 1965, The Cape Verdean Blues was led by jazz pianist Horace Silver and inspired by his father, John Tavares Silva, who was born in Cape Verde. Trombonist J.J. Johnson — whom Silver had long been eager to work with — joins the quintet on half of the tracks. A Blue Note essential, taped across two 1965 sessions on October 1st and 22nd.
