Recorded live in 1993, Hope distills the life's work of trumpeter, flugelhornist, and singer Hugh Masekela into one glorious set — from the worldwide crossover smash "Grazing in the Grass" and the anti-apartheid anthem "Bring Him Back Home (Mandela)" to the haunting migrant-labor epic "Stimela (Coal Train)." Buoyant, danceable, and politically charged, it's both a celebration and a testament, captured with stunning presence and dynamics. This 45 RPM 4LP edition spreads the music across eight sides for maximum fidelity, and includes an insert with an interview with original recording engineer David Hewitt.
This Analogue Productions edition is mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original analog tape, cut at 45 RPM, pressed on dead-quiet 180-gram vinyl at QRP, with gatefold tip-on jacket by Stoughton Printing housed in a custom-designed slipcase.
