The Experience's May 1968 Miami Pop Festival Debut
The May 18, 1968 Miami Pop Festival was the first major rock festival staged on the East Coast. The Experience were in the midst of recording Electric Ladyland when they headlined for promoter Michael Lang, who would go on to stage Woodstock. Making their debut here, these recordings introduce the first live performances of "Hear My Train a Comin'" and "Tax Free" alongside definitive takes on "Fire," "Hey Joe," "I Don't Live Today" and "Purple Haze," recorded on site by Hendrix's longtime engineer Eddie Kramer.
