Released on the Impulse! label in early 1966, It Serves You Right to Suffer is the only album John Lee Hooker made for the famed jazz imprint. Producer Bob Thiele paired Hooker with a band of jazz session greats — Panama Francis on drums, Milt Hinton on bass, and Barry Galbraith on guitar — for a unique setting that mixes new compositions with reworkings of earlier tunes, including a cover of Barrett Strong's 1959 Motown hit "Money (That's What I Want)."
