It was in Paris that John Lewis co-led this 1956 date with French guitarist Sacha Distel, joined by tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen, bassists Pierre Michelot and Percy Heath, and drummers Kenny Clarke and Connie Kay. The part-American, part-French group delivers an above-average bop session that ranges from standards like "Willow Weep for Me" and "All the Things You Are" to Milt Jackson's "Bags' Groove" and Lewis' title tune. A mythic LP and one of the best ever recorded in France.
