Johnny Griffin's blistering 1956 Blue Note debut, reissued in the all-analog Blue Note 80 series.

Tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin blew out of Chicago and cut his first Blue Note date in 1956, steering a nimble quartet of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Curly Russell, and drummer Max Roach through originals and standards. From the blistering opener "Mil Dew" to the loping "Chicago Calling" and bluesy "Nice and Easy," Griffin's staggering technique and buoyant swing are on full display. A flag-planting statement from one of hard bop's fastest and most exciting players.
