God Bless the Child was guitarist Kenny Burrell's only album for CTI Records, recorded at Van Gelder Studios in 1971. Burrell is joined by an all-star band — trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, flutist Hubert Laws, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Billy Cobham, pianist Richard Wyands and percussionist Ray Barretto — with lush, atmospheric arrangements by CTI house arranger Don Sebesky. The result is an under-heard, deeply soulful set that finds Burrell at his level best as player, composer and bandleader.
