Soul Jazz Records reissues flautist Lloyd McNeill's Elegia (1980), a serious collector's piece originally released on the artist's own private-press Baobab label and out of print for nearly 40 years. A heavyweight, fascinating fusion of deep spiritual jazz with Brazilian rhythms and melodies, it features the great percussionist Nana Vasconcelos alongside fellow Brazilians Portinho and Dom Salvador, and US bassist Cecil McBee. The culmination of McNeill's many years working with Brazilian musicians.
