Irish singer Mary Black is well known for deftly combining her Celtic roots with contemporary folk, and The Holy Ground offers another strong set. She interprets American folk favorite John Gorka ("Treasure Island") and connects with the Anglo-folk tradition on the lovely "One Way Donkey Ride," written by Sandy Denny of Fairport Convention. A rich blend of guitars, fiddles, saxophones, and accordions lends a timeless feel, with the emotional "Loving Time" standing out as a highlight. Black's expressive voice makes this another solid effort.
