Cookin' With the Miles Davis Quintet is the first of four classic albums to emerge from two marathon 1956 sessions (alongside Workin', Relaxin', and Steamin'). Recorded live in the studio with Rudy Van Gelder engineering, it captures Davis's new quintet — featuring tenor saxophonist John Coltrane — in full flight. In Miles's own words, he called it Cookin' because "that's what we did — came in and cooked." The set includes his first recorded version of "My Funny Valentine." Cut from the analog masters by Kevin Gray and pressed at Quality Record Pressings.
