Released in limited numbers alongside Black Mahogani back in 2004 and never repressed, Black Mahogani II finds Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.) departing from his house roots for cuts drawn from late-night jazz band sessions. The centerpiece is the eighteen-minute "When She Follows," a deep jazz session of skittering live drums, electric Fender Rhodes, loping acoustic bass and distant saxophone wrapped in a drifting vocal. "Rectify" follows in a similar mode, while the closing revisions rework the main cut with altered basslines and a wigged-out techno synth element.
