The same Baerwald geometry as the standard tool, in a larger and considerably stiffer body.

The Premium Alignment Tool uses exactly the same alignment geometry as Ortofon’s standard protractor — two-point Baerwald — so it does not give a different or more correct alignment. What it gives is a physically better tool to work with.

Ortofon describes it as a larger and sturdier version with a stated 75% increase in rigidity over the standard model. In practice that means it does not flex or bow while you have a stylus resting on it, which matters more than it sounds: a protractor that deflects under the weight of a tonearm is telling you something slightly different from the truth, and the larger body is easier to hold steady against the platter while you work.

Ortofon frames the benefit as durability, stability during the alignment process, a more secure grip and heightened accuracy. If you align cartridges regularly, or you are setting up something expensive, the extra outlay over the standard tool is trivially justified.
