After making his name as a sideman for Lou Donaldson, Jimmy Smith, Jackie McLean, and the Horace Silver Quintet, trumpeter Blue Mitchell returned to Rudy Van Gelder's studio in 1966 to cut Bring It Home to Me, a soulful, deeply funky hard bop date. He's joined by Junior Cook on tenor saxophone, Harold Mabern on piano, Gene Taylor on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums for a six-song set steeped in the blues. Mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog tapes and pressed at RTI in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
