180 gram 45RPM 2LP — Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series, mastered directly from the original master tape by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering and pressed at Quality Record Pressings.

Buffalo Springfield was the short-lived but enormously influential band that brought together Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay. Aptly named for a steamroller, they charged through a two-year tenure that set the tone for the folk-rock and country-rock of the 1970s. Their 1966 self-titled debut was led by "For What It's Worth," written by Stills after he witnessed a riot on the Sunset Strip; it climbed into the Billboard Top Ten in March 1967 and spread across the country almost overnight.

The song became an enduring anthem and eventually a shorthand for all the political turmoil of the 1960s — so popular that it threatened to obscure how instrumental Buffalo Springfield's original run of three albums was in reshaping the sound of rock & roll in the late '60s. Nominally a folk-rock band, they showed just as much facility with country-rock, psychedelia, soul and hard rock, all while embracing everything the Los Angeles studios of the day could offer. Stills, Furay and Young all went on to fame on their own or with groups such as Poco, Manassas and CSNY.

Part of "75 for 75," the Analogue Productions Atlantic 75 Series celebrating the 75th anniversary of Atlantic Records, this reissue is cut at 45 RPM across two 180 gram LPs, pressed at Quality Record Pressings and housed in a tip-on old style gatefold double pocket jacket with film lamination by Stoughton Printing. That's how you upgrade a classic.
