Donny Hathaway, released April 2, 1971 on Atco, is the second studio album by the American soul artist. Most of the record is given over to covers of pop, gospel, and soul songs of the moment, chief among them Hathaway's reading of Leon Russell's "A Song for You" and a gospel-inflected take on Gladys Knight & the Pips' "Giving Up," written by Van McCoy. Atlantic producer Jerry Wexler handled most of the production, with Hathaway producing one track, the self-penned "Take a Love Song." It was the second of only three solo studio albums he released in his lifetime.

This reissue is part of "75 for 75," the Atlantic 75 series drawn from Atlantic Records' storied catalog to mark the label's 75th anniversary. The hybrid disc carries a high-resolution SACD stereo layer plus a Red Book stereo CD layer, so it plays on conventional CD players as well.
