Mac Rebennack's blend of New Orleans R&B, blues, jazz, funk and rock permeated the musical landscape of the late '60s and beyond. After years as a songwriter, arranger and producer, and as a first-call Los Angeles session player for Sonny & Cher, Canned Heat and Frank Zappa, he became Dr. John The Night Tripper with 1968's Gris Gris. The singles and albums that followed brought "Iko Iko" and "Right Place Wrong Time," which hit #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973, and he performed "Such a Night" at The Band's farewell concert in The Last Waltz. He went on to win six Grammy awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. This collection gathers the hits alongside rare single edits.
