180g Vinyl LP — Blue Note Tone Poet Audiophile Reissue, Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Analog Tapes, Pressed at RTI

Arranger, composer and pianist Gil Evans recorded Great Jazz Standards in 1959 for World Pacific, the second of his two albums for the label. Leading two different ensembles featuring the likes of Johnny Coles, Curtis Fuller, Steve Lacy, Budd Johnson and Elvin Jones, Evans reimagines a program of jazz touchstones — from Bix Beiderbecke's "Davenport Blues" and Monk's "Straight No Chaser" to John Lewis' "Django" — closing with his own "Theme," later known as "La Nevada."
