180-Gram Mono LP — Chess Records 75 / Acoustic Sounds Series

Most of Chess Records' Real Folk Blues albums compiled singles recorded over several years; in Howlin' Wolf's case, from 1956 to 1965. Rather than folk blues, the set delivers Chicago urban blues from an incomparable singer backed by a host of great sidemen including Hubert Sumlin and Buddy Guy, as Chess remarketed the blues to the era's growing folk audience. This was the label's second LP of Wolf singles, gathering classics like "Killing Floor," "Tail Dragger," "Built for Comfort," and "Three Hundred Pounds of Joy."
