Jackie McLean - Jacknife - Tone Poet LP
180g Vinyl LP — Blue Note Tone Poet Series, Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Analog Tapes
Jackie McLean's evocative 1965 album Jacknife captures the alto saxophonist in an envelope-pushing post-bop mode, joined by trumpeters Lee Morgan and Charles Tolliver. McLean assembled a deeply engaged rhythm section with pianist Larry Willis, bassist Larry Ridley, and drummer Jack DeJohnette, igniting material that ranges from the modal explorations of Tolliver's "On the Nile" to the churning rhythms of DeJohnette's "Climax" and McLean's own "Blue Fable." This stereo Tone Poet edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.
