Silver Street is the label-debut release for Hayden Records and a true labor of love from drummer, composer and producer Jacob Wendt, who assembled the band, wrote and arranged all eight songs, and helped make the key recording decisions. Inspired by the legend of Rudy Van Gelder's home studio, Wendt had his quintet play together in a single room at Big City Recording using minimalist miking techniques, yielding an intimate sonic portrait of a small jazz combo swinging into the wee hours. Drawing on the influence of Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter and the classic Blue Note catalog, it's a warm, swinging set of original hard bop. Recorded, mixed and mastered by Paul Tavenner and pressed on 180g audiophile vinyl at RTI.
