Hybrid Stereo SACD, Analogue Productions (Atlantic 75 Series)
The first album to hit shelves after Giant Steps, Coltrane Jazz was recorded in November and December 1959 (with one track, "Village Blues," cut in late 1960). On most of the album Coltrane is backed by the Miles Davis rhythm section of pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Jimmy Cobb, while "Village Blues" features McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones and Steve Davis. The record stands as a key step toward Coltrane's peak years of the 1960s, highlighted by originals "Harmonique" and "Like Sonny."
