Mingus is Joni Mitchell's 1979 collaboration with jazz titan Charles Mingus, who wrote several songs for the project before his death shortly before the album was completed. Four Mingus compositions with Mitchell's lyrics appear here, including a version of "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat." Backed by Jaco Pastorius, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Peter Erskine, Mitchell said she felt fully immersed in jazz for the first time while making the record.
