Brazilian percussionist Naná Vasconcelos's Saudades, recorded in March 1979, was the culmination of a long-held dream to hear the berimbau in an orchestral context. Egberto Gismonti arranged the material for strings and appears as co-composer and supporting soloist, with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart conducted by Mladen Gutesha and production by Manfred Eicher. This Luminessence vinyl reissue comes in a gatefold sleeve with new liner notes providing historical context.
