Portraits of Cuba reflects the musical odyssey of Paquito D'Rivera, a unique blend of Cuban and jazz music that reaffirms both the artist's Cuban roots and his love for the American art form. Beautifully orchestrated by arranger and conductor Carlos Franzetti and performed by D'Rivera with eighteen seasoned musicians, it was recorded live without overdubbing at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in New York City in February 1996 using a single high-resolution microphone setup. The selections span nearly ten decades of Cuban music.
