Reissue, Original Gatefold Jacket — First Time on Vinyl Since 1971
You've heard Bernard "Pretty" Purdie drum on more albums than you can count — from Aretha Franklin (as her musical director) to Miles Davis, King Curtis, James Brown, Steely Dan, and countless others — and he invented the famous "Purdie Shuffle." This rare 1971 record is only the third he cut as a leader, surrounded by a stellar cast including Cornell Dupree, Chuck Rainey, Harold Wheeler, Snooky Young, and Seldon Powell. It's a funky, eclectic affair full of great breakbeats, highlighted by the proto-rap tune "Artificialness" featuring Gil Scott-Heron. Crate diggers, dig in.
