The Truth is widely regarded as one of Prince's most underappreciated hidden gems. Originally released in 1998 as an accompaniment to the triple album Crystal Ball — the first album Prince released totally independently — it was also his first to be labeled "acoustic," though it contains electronic elements too. The result gives listeners an unprecedented chance to hear his songwriting and voice in a stripped-down presentation.
