The Genius of Ray Charles, his sixth studio album, was released in 1959 by Atlantic Records and traded the gospel-jazz-blues fusion of his earlier work for swinging pop with big band arrangements. Charles is joined by ringers from the Count Basie and Duke Ellington bands across the first half, belting six songs arranged by Quincy Jones, with solos from David "Fathead" Newman, Marcus Belgrave, and Paul Gonsalves. The remaining six numbers are ballads backed by a string orchestra arranged by Ralph Burns, with Charles' voice in peak form throughout. This 180-gram 45 RPM 2LP is part of Analogue Productions' Atlantic 75 series.
