A classic of the genre, Way Out West was tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins' first album for the west coast label Contemporary Records when released in 1957. The first album to employ the "strolling" technique of sax, bass, and drums without piano, Rollins is backed by Ray Brown on bass and Shelly Manne on drums. This edition, part of the Acoustic Sounds Series, features (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes by Bernie Grundman, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP and presented in a tip-on jacket.
