The Seeds stand tall among the handful of mid-60s American garage bands whose influence is still audible in rock today. Led by charismatic frontman Sky Saxon, the Hollywood quartet's minimalist rock'n'roll is perfectly captured on this July 1966 debut. It contains two familiar classics in "Can't Seem To Make You Mine" and "Pushin' Too Hard" — both recorded and released well before either became a hit — but the record is no quickie cash-in. It's a sharp definition of the band's aberrant style, from the rough-hewn rockers "Girl I Want You" and "No Escape" to the pot-boiling blues of "Nobody Spoil My Fun" and the downright sinister "Evil Hoodoo."
