Drummer Rashied Ali was a magnetic force for the musicians around him. One unique group he led at the 2002 Vision Festival with saxophonist Frank Lowe also went into the studio, and that session is Sidewalks in Motion, featuring Ali and Lowe alongside young players Jumaane Smith, Andrew Bemkey, and Joris Teepe. Prepped for release in the years after Lowe's death, it arrives via the reborn Survival Records in an old-school tip-on jacket with photos and recollections from bassist Teepe.
