Ray Charles - In Person - Pure Pleasure LP
Remastered by Ray Staff at Air Mastering, Lyndhurst Hall, London
Recorded live in 1960 at Herndon Stadium in Atlanta and captured on a single-microphone, one-track tape recorder by an engineer at radio station WAOK, this is Ray Charles at his most electric. The performance is raw, joyous, and cathartic, with the band heard in remarkable clarity and the crowd's whooping and shouting woven right into the energy. On "The Right Time" and "Tell The Truth," both shared with Raelettes lead singer Marjorie Hendricks, the music becomes pure transcendence. It remains one of the greatest rhythm and blues albums ever made. This issue reflects the original vinyl release, including all the dialogue between Ray, the promoter, and the audience.
