Rega - 2MM 3-Point Spacer

A 2mm arm height spacer that fits under the tonearm base — not, despite common belief, a shim that goes between cartridge and headshell.

This part is widely misunderstood, so let us be precise about what it is. It is a 2mm spacer that fits under the tonearm base, between the three-point tonearm mounting and the plinth or armboard, raising the whole arm by 2mm. It does not fit between the cartridge and the headshell. Cartridge-to-headshell shims are a different product entirely, and buying the wrong one is a wasted trip.

What it is for, in Rega’s own words: some other manufacturers’ cartridges have a deeper body than Rega’s, and these will sometimes require the spacer to give clearance between the rear of the cartridge and the record. The second use case is fitting a Rega arm to a non-Rega turntable, where spacers may be needed to get the arm height right.

Rega is clear that on a Rega turntable you should not need one unless you are using an exceptionally deep-bodied cartridge from another maker, and that adjustment is only called for if the rear of the cartridge is actually hitting the record while playing. This is a fix for a specific problem, not a routine upgrade.

It fits all Rega three-point tonearms, including the current Planar range. Note that Rega sells a separate Stainless 2mm Shim for the older RB250 and RB300 arms — a different part for a different mounting, so check which arm you have.
