Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942, Ruby Winters began singing in church and turned professional at sixteen. Her break came with New York's Diamond Records, where 1966's "In the Middle of a Heartache" and the Johnny Thunder duet "Make Love to Me" carried her into the Billboard R&B Top 20 — and where the UK Northern Soul scene later made her a beloved figure. This compilation gathers the best of her Diamond years, cut with producers of the caliber of Buddy Killen and George Kerr.
