Rudimentary Peni - Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric - LP
$39.99
Vinyl LP, Remastered Reissue
Pope Adrian 37th Psychristiatric is the third LP by Rudimentary Peni. Recorded in 1992 but not released until 1995, it was the first music the band made after their already leftfield Cacophony, and it stands as an underrated, difficult masterpiece of outsider music. Built on harrowing, morbid songs and hypnotic repetition, it pushes the listener into a trance-like state, with the phrase "Popus Adrianus" looping throughout. Written while Nick Blinko — convinced he was Pope Adrian the 37th — was detained under the 1983 Mental Health Act, it is unhinged, challenging, and utterly idiosyncratic.
