Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus - LP
$29.99
180-gram vinyl reissue in a Stoughton tip-on jacket — Sonny Rollins' 1956 hard-bop masterpiece.
Recorded in a single day on June 22, 1956 with Tommy Flanagan on piano, Doug Watkins on bass and Max Roach on drums, Saxophone Colossus is the album that cemented Rollins as a giant of the tenor saxophone. It opens with his calypso-driven signature "St. Thomas" and closes with the landmark blues improvisation "Blue 7," with the "Mack the Knife" reading "Moritat" in between.
