Pianist Sun Ra is often called an acquired taste, but Standards is a perfect place to start. The album showcases his grounding in the jazz tradition with unique takes on songbook classics like "Time After Time," "Easy to Love," and "But Not for Me." Recorded informally between 1955 and 1963 — "Can This Be Love?" was cut in his Chicago apartment with only Wilbur Ware on bass, while the remaining tracks feature longtime associate John Gilmore on tenor saxophone.
