Following Jackpot Records' reissue of The Wild Magnolias' self-titled debut comes the band's 1975 follow-up, They Call Us Wild — a funk masterpiece with a psychedelic streak running deep through it. Vocals echo and drip, saxophones and keyboards swing off each other, and the omnipresent multi-layered percussion shows exactly why this Mardi Gras Indian group remains among the most sampled bands of all time, drawn on by Nas, Public Enemy, and Jungle Brothers alike. Producer Philippe Rault returned to capture the band's dense magic, this time taking a darker, more haunted approach on tracks like the jazzy "Injuns, Here We Come" and the slow, spoken-word groove of "Jumalaka Boom Boom."
