The Waiting Game was the final album from unsung tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks, recorded in 1961 but not released until 1999. One of the most under-appreciated tenor players and composers of the hard-bop era, Brooks is joined here by Johnny Coles (trumpet), Kenny Drew (piano), Wilbur Ware (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums). He penned five of the six tracks, showcasing his unique compositional talent and pleading, soulful tone, with highlights including "Talkin' About" and the modal masterpiece "David The King."
