An Evening With The Devil is a landmark of Detroit's Tribe collective, the artist-run movement that channeled the city's early-1970s spiritual jazz scene. Saxophonist and composer Wendell Harrison wrote all of the music here as a suite in five movements, blending jazz, rock and African polyrhythms with poetry from Detroit poets Oba and Vajava. Politically charged and deeply communal, it remains one of the Tribe label's defining statements.
