Andrew Hill's Black Fire is both the pianist-composer's debut and an acknowledged masterpiece of modern post-bop jazz. Featuring a sublime quartet with Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Richard Davis on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums, the November 1963 session launched an astounding creative streak that also produced Smokestack, Judgment!, and Point of Departure. This Blue Note Tone Poet edition was mastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from the original master tape and pressed at RTI.
