The AT-ART1000 (ART stands for Audio-Technica Reference Transducer) is the product of more than 60 years of cartridge design, featuring an innovative audiophile design heretofore unseen in mass-produced cartridges. Its defining Direct Power System mounts the dual moving coils directly on top of the stylus tip, eliminating the negative effects that cantilever length and material impose on the signal, so subtle groove details are reproduced with striking vividness.
Each coil is hand-wound from 20-micron PCOCC (Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting) wire in an eight-turn, 0.9 mm diameter non-magnetic-core configuration, working within a 0.6 mm magnetic gap energized by a powerful neodymium magnet. A special line contact stylus on a 0.26 mm solid boron cantilever rides the groove, while the aluminum and titanium base with hard resin cover disperses unwanted resonance. Handmade in Japan, the AT-ART1000 carries Audio-Technica's Excellence Product designation.
