The AT-OC9XEN uses Audio-Technica's dual moving coil design, with independent coils for the left and right channels wound from Pure Copper by Ohno Continuous Casting (PCOCC) wire and arranged in a reverse V-shaped formation to minimize stylus pressure and distortion. A neodymium magnet and pure iron yoke enhance magnetic energy, while the rigid aluminum body reduces resonance.

Within the OC9X family, the OC9XEN is distinguished by its low-mass nude elliptical stylus (0.3 x 0.7 mil) mounted on an aluminum pipe cantilever — a step up from the bonded elliptical of the OC9XEB, with the nude diamond's lower tip mass improving groove tracking and detail retrieval at 0.35 mV output.
