Recorded in New York with a hard-swinging sextet that included Jimmy Knepper on trombone, Shafi Hadi on alto and tenor, Clarence Shaw on trumpet, Bill Evans on piano and Dannie Richmond on drums, it captures Mingus at a fertile, exploratory peak.
