Charles Mingus called Tijuana Moods "the best recording I ever made." Recorded in 1957 but not released until 1962, it features Mingus on bass leading a fiery band with Jimmy Knepper (trombone), Shafi Hadi (alto/tenor sax), Clarence Shaw (trumpet), Bill Triglia (piano) and Dannie Richmond (drums), plus Ysabel Morel on vocals and Frankie Dunlop on castanets. Passionate playing, exciting ensembles and high-quality compositions make this one of Mingus' finest hours.
