Dimitri Mitropoulos - Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique - Speakers Corner LP
180-Gram Vinyl, Speakers Corner Audiophile Reissue
In 1830, just after Beethoven had completed his symphonies, a young Frenchman created a sensation with completely novel and exuberant orchestral music. Berlioz cast his massive five-movement Symphonie Fantastique as a musical drama, following an autobiographically motivated young artist who dreams, hallucinates and rages his way from the recurring 'idée fixe' through an opium intoxication to the nightmare of his own burial. Of the many high-quality recordings of the work, this benchmark performance by Dimitri Mitropoulos and the New York Philharmonic makes the rhythms pulsate and blends the orchestral colors so subtly that new details emerge with every listening. Remastered using pure analogue components only.
