Tipping the scales at 68.5 pounds with a substantial 6.25 x 22 x 18.11-inch plinth. Its bold, high-mass design demands space while captivating attention with its meticulous craftsmanship, precision engineering, immersive sound, and versatile functionality. Purpose-built to seamlessly support two tonearms up to 12 inches, the Firebird features three brushless, three-phase DC motors arranged in an equilateral triangle, synchronized by a proprietary controller in a phase-locked loop for exceptionally low jitter. Even if turntable technology isn’t your expertise, this rare architecture underscores the Firebird’s extraordinary nature.
Few turntables, if any, rival the Firebird’s ease and intelligence in installing, adjusting, or swapping tonearms (it includes a $250 Feickert Next Generation Universal Protractor). Two rear-corner cutouts on the plinth allow you to mount your preferred tonearm, with a quick-change sliding system ensuring precise adjustments. (A single armboard is standard; a second requires a Delrin slider and additional armboard.) The plinth itself is a masterpiece: a tempered MDF core framed by sleek aluminum plates, supported by adjustable vibration-dampening feet, and backed by a two-year warranty on chassis and electronics (five years for bearings). The Firebird is engineered for enduring performance.
Its 13.2-pound High Inertia Delrin platter, enhanced with eight MS58 brass inserts for impeccable balance and added mass, pairs with an inverted stainless-steel bearing featuring spiral grooves for optimized oil flow and an oil-release grub screw for superior motor/bearing synergy. This design delivers remarkable smoothness, effortless poise, and stunning stability, with near-silent rumble and exceptional quietness. The triangular motor configuration enhances stability, while the absence of drafts on the platter bearing eliminates unwanted force and distortion.
Operation is intuitive and engaging. One-touch speed controls for 33, 45, and 78 RPM are integrated into the plinth, with "plus" and "minus" buttons for fine-tuned speed adjustments. Sonically, the Firebird shines with smooth, rich, precise, and dynamic sound—free of harshness, neutral yet powerful. Your vinyl collection will feel reborn. As Michael Fremer noted in Stereophile, the Firebird offers “gliding smoothness and sophisticated leading-edge transients,” avoiding harsh or overly softened edges. He praised its “pleasing neutrality,” exceptional midrange richness, and strong high- and low-frequency extension.
