A linear regulated power supply that brings the sonic advantages of Dr. Feickert's battery supply to the turntable at a third of the price.
In the search for improvements in LP reproduction, the electrical side matters as much as the mechanical. The question Dr. Feickert set itself was how far galvanic isolation can usefully be taken. That led, in 2013, to an attempt at the ultimate power supply with the maximum possible isolation: a battery unit, developed all the way to series production. It worked, but permanent trouble-free operation could not be guaranteed in everyday use simply because the thing was awkward to live with.
The answer was to carry what had been learned from the battery supply across to a linear regulated design. All of the sonic advantages came with it, at a third of the price and with none of the handling problems.
It replaces the standard external supply on any current Dr. Feickert turntable — Volare, Woodpecker, Blackbird or Firebird — delivering the same 24 V, 500 mA DC the deck expects, from a hand-built linear regulated circuit rather than a switching one. Mains input voltage is detected automatically. What you hear is calmer, richer and more dynamic: details emerge more clearly, the imaging of the room sharpens and gains precision, and the stage becomes more realistic in width and depth.
