Big band fans, take note. Recorded in 1960, these nine numbers find the 17-piece Ellington Orchestra sounding fresh and new — well practiced but never dull, cool, groovy and intoxicating. Unusually, no single wind soloist stands in the foreground here; the whole body of musicians does, with Sam Woodyard keeping everything under control. And the 60-year-old "Piano Man" sits full of vigour before the 88 keys. This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head.
